In the production, HMS Parlaiment, HMS Pinafore’s Deadeye Dick becomes Alexander MacDeadeye, based on Alexander MacKenzie, the second Prime Minister of Canada.

To bring this strong, opinionated character to life, the costume included a kilt with all of the trappings.

The fabric from the kilt was repeated in the lapels of the vest and again in a representation of a shoulder plaid to bring the costume together and make the varous elements complement eachother.

The fabric for the jacket was specifically chosen for its feel and weight. The colours also helped make this character stand out. The kilt was made as a proper eight yard kilt.

Using the full amount of fabric allows for it to have the proper look and movement as a smaller number or depth of pleats moves very differently.
